MY STORY WITH CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME... Back in 1996, I went down the path of getting a "real job", working at a Kaiser Permanente as an account administrative representative. It entailed a full work week at the computer, dealing with insurance policies, policy holders and enrollments. Having a small body frame, it took just six months before I started having numbness and tingling in my hands, sharp shooting pains in my hands and wrists. I tried to work through it, hoping it would go away. It didn't. Eventually I had to file a worker's compensation case. The doctors decided to call it Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). While I won't go into all the long details of my story since then, but let's just say the HEALTH COMPANY I worked for didn't inform me, didn't take care of me, gave me solutions in a very conflict of interest scenario, and eventually I lost my job and income. No one told me about supplements. After a couple years of sleepless nights, being woken up with numb hands and arms, and endless anxiety, I found my calling. Business coaching. Thankfully, I have found the fulfillment that was missing from all previous jobs. Through my relationships found by business, I have been fortunate enough to have had enough education to get my chronic carpal tunnel syndrome pain to decrease from a 10 on a scale of 1-10, down to a 2. What did I do? Stopped sitting at the computer all day, plenty of massage therapy and using Proflavanol, a grape seed extract. It's an anti-inflammatory. None of my worker's compensation doctors asked me one thing about nutrition or supplements years ago. Now, over the years, I have heard lots of people say it's either surgery or just live with the carpal tunnel syndrome. Neither is true. Although I will not at this point say I am cured of it, however, it affects my life much less than ever in the past. I do all the things I used to do before my injury where a year ago I stayed away from some things. I am sure that in just one or two more years of self-care, it will be gone. The reason I tell this story is because just like it took time for me to develop CTS through repetitive exposure to what was causing the symptoms, I have been able over time to gradually overcome it. Usana has made a difference in my health, and after my negative experience with doctors, workers compensation and the "system" in general, I realized I have to take my own health into my own hands and Usana is playing a key role in improving my health. |
